Carrie was playing in the kitchen with her puppy Pert. Her brother Jay was studying on the porch with a friend.

Jay comes home into the kitchen. He wants Carrie to do him a favour. He would like her to go to the living room upstairs and get his books.

Carrie says yes. When Jay leaves, she puts Pert in his basket in the laundry room. She does not want her puppy to follow her.

"Pert, stay in your basket," she says. "I'll be back soon".

Carrie rushes out. She does not want to leave her puppy alone too long. She closes the door behind her. But the door does not close tightly.

Pert watches as Carrie leaves the room. He waits and waits and waits, but Carrie does not come back. Pert decides to go look for Carrie.

Pert gets out of his basket. He goes to the door. He scratches at the door. He finally opens the door. He goes out of the laundry room and down the hall looking for Carrie.

He doesn't find Carrie, but he does find an open door. Pert quickly goes into the room. He starts sniffing around. He goes over to a low table.

Pert sees something colourful on the table. He puts his paws on the table to get a better look. Pert tilts his head to one side. He wonders what the colourful object would taste like.

Pert grabs the colourful object with his mouth. He drags the colourful object to the floor. Pert starts chewing on it. He starts growling at it.

He shakes his head and a piece falls off. Pert looks at the colourful piece on the floor. He looks back at the colourful object and pounces on it. Pert is having so much fun that he is growling loudly.

Carrie's mom hears Pert growling from the hallway. She wonders what he is growling at. She follows the sound into the library.

She finds Pert chewing on her favorite died flower arrangement. "Pert! Stop doing that!" Carrie's mom exclaims.

Pert is having too much fun and is growling so loud that he can't hear Carrie's mom. "Bad dog! I said stop doing that!" Carries' mom says. She pulls Pert away from the dried flower arrangement.

Carrie is on her way back to the laundry room to get Pert. She hears strange loud noises coming from the library. She goes to investigate.

Carrie walks into the library. She sees her mom sitting on the floor holding Pert. She sees he mom's favorite flower arrangement all over the floor.

Carrie sees Pert's pink chin and bursts out laughing. "Carrie! Why are you laughing young lady?" her mother asks. "Look at PERT's chin Mommy!" Carrie says.

Carrie's mom looks at the puppy's chin and starts to laugh herself. Pert looks at Carrie then her mom, wondering what is going on. He starts barking at them.

They laugh till their sides hurt.

Nobody was really angry with Pert, but he was banished to the back porch.
